Latin Sweets

Last night I worked with an event management company at a Latin themed party and somehow I was surprised that the majority of the guests didn't know what Flan and Tres Leches were and was very happy to see they liked them a lot.

These two desserts are two of the best known desserts that have come out of Latin America and for that reason I wanted to share with you a bit of "sweet" information so you can enjoy them yourselves in case you've never had them.

Flan is a baked custard with a caramel sauce that is served cold and usually decorated with some fresh fruits. My favorite recipe is from Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger best known as "The Too Hot Tamales"... Please click HERE for the recipe!

The Tres Leches is a delicious sponge cake soaked in a 3 milk sauce and topped with a meringue frosting. The recipe I'm including is Martha Stewart's because it's not just fool proof but also is the most authentic I've found. Click HERE for the recipe!

Have a sweet middle of the week!!!

  3. Mmmm, I first had flan and tres leches as a young one and there are times I almost miss flan the way I'd miss a childhood food (which is strange because flan is definitely *not* a typical thing in Hawaii :)). This sounds so delicious, I would love to try it out soon! Thank you for sharing the goodness!

  15. My parents love to tell the story of how I cried when I first tasted flan when I was little. I'm still not wild about the texture. But Tres Leche I ADORE, though I found a recipe better than Martha's, in my opinion.
