Mandarina

I love tangerines or mandarinas, as they´re called in Spanish. But, I love them  sort of green because they are still tangy but have that distinct flavor. Right now over here they're in season and I'm having a great time devouring them.

The name of the fruit comes from the city of Tangier in Morocco, where it is believed this variety of the mandarin orange comes from.

Like all citrus fruits out there, tangerines are loaded with vitamin C and also have folate, beta-carotene, potassium, magnesium and vitamins B1 {thiamine}, B2 {riboflavin} and B3.

To top the benefits list, studies have show that this tasty fruit contains a substance that help fight obesity, protects against type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis, which is one of the causes for heart disease.

The beautiful color of the ripe fruit makes it a great ingredient for a homemade liqueur. The RECIPE is very much like making limoncello. No doubt this would make an original gift or even wedding favors.

Have a sweet day!

  3. I love tangerines, especially when they are a bit on the sour side still. The liqueur sounds delicious, I've made my own limoncello and this is basically the same procedure I used so I may try this sometime in the fall. Yum!

  17. I can't wait for citrus to fully come back into season here. And as much as I love the word tangerine, tangerinas is cuter. I might adopt it.
