Keeping Resolutions

Inevitably every year we come up with a set of resolutions for the next 365 days, and by the time the first month is over most of us have fallen off the wagon, leaving those heartfelt resolutions. Here are some tips to keep those resolutions going for longer than just the year.


The cardinal rule for making resolutions is to make ones that you can actually achieve or accomplish. The reason why so many of them don't survive is because we come up with things that do not appeal as much to us and then out heart is not really on it. People might say they want to lose weight but they are not willing to compromise on the things you need to do to actually shed the pounds.


Make an inspiration board featuring all of those things you wish to achieve. This will serve as a constant reminder of your resolutions and will make it harder to not follow up on them. There is a sort of powerful thing that happens when things take shape instead of staying abstract.



Find partner that shares the same goals, that way if one of you is starting to flake the other one will intervene and not let things to go down the drain.


Keep in mind that bad habits are hard to break and in order to change them you have to be disciplined. If your resolution involves changing something, be patient and you'll see that before you know it you have created a whole new {hopefully good} habit.

  3. These are great...I start off having food resolutions and then break them...but I didn't make any this year, just wishes and if I achieve them, it's good and if I don't then I don't mind. xo

  5. I never make resolutions, there´s something with them that makes me break them at once. But I do try to improve and enjoy my life through out the year instead, which works for me. :-)

  6. I try to keep my resolutions attainable- this year, my goal is to read more. I love to read, but it takes a backseat to work, regular busy-with-life nonsense, and admittedly too much TV. :)

  7. This is one of the first years I am at a loss for a resolution.

    Thankfully my big resolution in 2012, to publish my first novel, was accomplished. I guess I need to breathe for awhile.

  17. I make summer resolutions, simply because I actually have the time (and the weather cooperates) for completing most goals. It seems to work pretty well for me.
