ABC Ethnic

I hope all of you had a fantastic weekend... I spent it resting and enjoying the different versions of the Iron Chef because I love talented people really using their heads to create great things. So, that takes me to today's post where I take you to ABC in NY for a little taste of what people in exotic places create.

Tibetan bells in different sizes and shapes... love the noise they make when placed in a windy place

I have always loved the arts and crafts of other parts of the world that have so much meaning and tell you the story of their people and costumes. I have managed to get my hands on a few things that are very representative of far away places.

Loving the big glass case to display all your findings and that over sized deity

I've never been to anywhere in Asia and have to admit that every time I see one of these great decorative artifacts I want to go to get one myself and bring it home to tell everyone all my stories about that exotic trip...

Jewelery and pillows in luscious and colorful fabrics

Today I'll be cooking some Indian food with the FIU students and definitely this post has put me in the mood to get to the kitchen fully prepped in the ethnic and exotic.

Talking about food, I want to ask you if you cook everyday and why you get to hit the skillet or not...

Have a great beginning of the week and add a bit of spice to your day!

  1. How have I completely missed this store?! Love all the fabulous ethnic pieces!! I'll have to check ABC out next time I'm in the market for home stuff!

  3. I haven't been to ABC Ethnic yet -- it's wonderful. Someday, when I have my own home, I'm going to have real trouble decorating because there are so many different styles I love. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

As for cooking every day, I don't, mainly because there are some days I simply don't have time with classes and meetings and such (on Wednesdays, I'm on campus from 7:30am to 8:30pm). But I do cook several times during the week and make sure I always have leftovers to eat on those busy days.

  7. I love ABC and thank goodness I don't live in NYC anymore because that place was dangerously tempting! :) I love seeing arts and crafts from different parts of the world too (and hope you get to visit Asia! It is so fantastic and different!) Have great fun at your cooking class!

P.S. I want to cook everyday but my long workhours sometimes make it impossible - I try cooking more on days I have time (eating leftovers next day) or finding "shortcuts" in recipes whenever I can to save time.

  8. I love the look of those bells. How fun it would be to have several of them hanging outside. I do cook at least breakfast everyday. I'm a morning person. It's just my husband and me left at home now so we work out and then I cook breakfast while he's getting ready for work (I work from home). I'm usually tired in the evening and he often works late so this is our together meal, no matter what. I prefer a cooked breakfast to cereal.

  9. Those bells are awesome!!!

I definitely prepare food every day, but I'm not sure it's always "cooking". Does that make sense? "Cooking" to ME sounds way more creative than some of the meals we eat. ;)

  10. I love cooking but don't do it everyday because I am not home during the evenings. And I absolutely love Indian food. Out of all food categories, Indian is my favorite.

  11. ABC is such a fun store and I've definitely gotten a few nice ethnic inspired pillows there. But then I went to the fabric markets in Delhi and THAT was a great selection!

  12. Oh, I love ABC-I could spend hours running around in there!

As for cooking, we try to cook everyday, because it's far less disappointing than eating out. I have pretty high standards for what I'll eat, and I hate to waste time and money on a meal I could have cooked better. We skip the skillet when we're craving something I don't cook well-mainly sushi!

  13. yummm, Indian food! And that store is fab, I really like the big display case... pure beauty!

As far as cooking, I cook almost everyday... Although when work gets more hectic I like cooking a bunch of meals in one day so that they last for several days during the week. The main reason why I cook is because I really enjoy it! It's kind of therapeutic to me... But also because I like eating healthy, I am vegetarian and that way I know no animal meats/fats have gone into the food and lastly because it saves money :)

  20. What a great store!

Kiwi and I have been to Thailand twice now and every time we go it's hard not to stuff your suitcase full of things for our home!

Last time we were there we brought back a beautiful tapestry and a gorgeous carved statue of Buddha. They are great reminders of our trip!

  21. those tibetan bells would look amazing hanging in a foyer. everytime i travel, i get tempted to buy decor pieces but the challenge is always getting it back home :( so am usually limited to buying paintings unless i decide to ship something back. stores like ABC are a great way to find exotic pieces
