Psychology of L.O.V.E.

Back in high school I took Psychology and one of the things I clearly remember is that chapter from the book where all the scholars try to explain what love is from the scientific point of view and how the mind and body react to it.

Coincidentally, the other day I found {and can't remember where!} the different styles of love people feel according to John Lee who organized them in the same way the color wheel is organized.

Eros: the love for an ideal person, a passionate physical and emotional love based on aesthetic enjoyment; stereotype of romantic love.

Ludus: Love as a game, a love that is played as a game or sport; conquest; may have multiple partners at once

Storge: Love as friendship, love that develops slowly from friendship, based on similarity

Mania: obsessive love, obsessive love; experience great emotional high and lows; very possessive and often jealous lovers

Pragma: realistic and practical love, love that is driven by the head, not the heart; undemonstrative

Agape: selfless love, selfless altruistic love; spiritual

I guess this post would've been more appropriate for Valentine's day but a little love info is good any time of the year... By the way, isn't it crazy {no pun intended!} how psychologically we fit in one or two of those categories at some point?

Have a great and lovely {pun intended!} day!

  1. I was just thinking that! I was like, "Man, I kind of fit each of these depending on the time of my life and who I was with." Great great post. So fun to learn more about ourselves, even if it's just speculation.
