On Blogging

I started blogging in mid 2009 at my sister's suggestions to promote a little stationary business I had {eventually stopped because of the time I needed for my Masters} and despite of that I never stopped, and continued doing it because I liked the connections I made with people who were doing the same thing.

Since then I've had the pleasure and privilege to meet amazing bloggers that otherwise I would have never crossed paths with... and that's one of the reasons why still do it. Blogging takes a huge chunk of my day and I enjoy it because of the lives I touch with the things I talk about {I learn a lot through it too!}.

Last week, Mademoiselle Poirot talked about being approached by someone who was only looking to increase her readership numbers {check out her post HERE}. After going through my weekend messages, I saw that I was approached by the same person who left the exact same comment on my blog as she did on Poirot's blog... I felt as upset as she did, because this person didn't even bother to read what we had posted that day.

It's OK not to find interesting all the time what a blogger talks about because we all have different lives, and it's OK not to leave a message everyday. But despite of that, there are people out there who spend a good deal of time trying to make things interesting and they deserve respect just because of that.

If you are new to this blog, please take your time to get to know what this space is all about. If you have been here before, thanks for coming back and hope you're enjoying it. If I've meet you in person, thanks for your time and hope I get to see you real soon {special tanks to Brandi, Dawn, Tamra, Hope, Audrey, Mary Jo}.

I vote for keep blogging fun, interesting, and friendly. I ask to please forget about your numbers and concentrate on quality. I promise to be a good blogger, work on entertaining you, and to treat you as I want you to treat me. I apologize if I have eve made you feel the opposite. We are a pretty nice community and I hope we can keep it that way.

Have a lovely day and once again thanks!

  1. Hi from a somewhat rainy Oslo:)

I thought your text was lovely, and great...
I read your blog because it gives me a source of inspiration for my own blogging, and we all need some inspiration in life:)

Keep doing what you do, and this Norwegian girl will keep reading...

    Bye :)

  2. I agree doll! I got the same message from that person & I had no idea at first, then I saw her post about the same comment and then went back to my page & deleted it. I find that really insulting when someone does that. I have decided now, that I can't respond to everyone when they try and give those comments, the beggars for follows and stuff like that, it just ruins blogging. And then you never see any comment from them again really after you've followed them and they've followed you, that's defeats the point really. I think a lot of bloggers are getting fed up with it. I think, if you like a post or blog, just follow it on your own accord, don't beg them to follow you as your comment and not include anything on the subject you just read from their post. It just has to be ignored and deleted when they come around. Not let them ruin anyone enjoying to blog. Have a sweet day doll xx

  3. I love your images...
This post is so right on,
there are more and more comments I get about trading or a deal about following each other.
I blog because I enjoy doing it and I get inspired of the pics and things that I get to learn everyday.

  4. Well said. This person is just L-A-Z-Y. I mean, a copy and paste job on every blog? Really? It's just insulting. She or he might gain followers because there are a ton of people out there who don't know any better. But real connections are invaluable. And that's something this person will miss out on.

  5. I agree with everything that you said. I forget about the exuberance and naivete of youth too. So thank you to bloggers like you, who keep the blogosphere an interesting place to continue to explore

  6. Very well said! You never made us feel that way - promise. I love coming here - there is always something lovely, inspiring, or motivating here. Keep plugging away - your creative eye and kind heart always shine through.

  7. Amen to that! This post was short and sweet, and I couldn’t agree more. I blog as a creative outlet - just as much as for myself, as for other people.

  11. It's so hard to do but I agree...it shouldn't be about how many followers you have but rather how genuine you are being. To be truthful, I feel bad and get caught up about not replying to everyone. I always feel bad!

  12. What an interesting subject, darling! I agree...The most important thing is to be yourself and try to come up with genuine and interesting stuff that will entertain and inspire. I think this girl is totally missing the point of this experience...Thanks for remind us what it's really ALL about!

  13. I definitely agree. One should blog because she enjoys it. We may get caught up in the followers game, but followers come and go. You are always entertaining and thoughtful Elie!

  14. Loved her post. We all blog for different reasons and when I find people who do it because they love it, those are the ones I want to follow and be friends with.

  15. I agree 100%. I love getting to know like-minded people from all over with such different perspectives on everything. I get so much inspiration from other bloggers out there and am in awe of so many of them who do such amazing things. I'm really enjoying your blog. All these images are so sweet and oh the macaroons!!

  17. This is such a perfectly put post on an issue that usually just leaves me frothing at the mouth! There's nothing more offensive than a random blogger trolling for traffic–and not even taking the time to truly engage!

  18. Hi !
I have a tagg going over at the blog.
Would you like to enter ?

    Have a great week!

  19. I admit I've been burned every time I've helped a new blogger out. I also wrote a post about actually reading posts, and not just skipping to the comments.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Agreed - not that I have many people reading my blog, but it's annoying to get random, impersonal comments about "you follow me, I'll follow you". Dumb! Thanks for the post AND creating a cupcake craving in me!! ;)

  21. Blogging has never been about the numbers for me. I love what I do. It's so fun to be a part of such a close community. I have met some amazing people because of my blog and involvement with social media. I wouldn't trade this for the world.

  22. Amen to this post! I cannot even begin to tell you how I really find it highly irritating that some cheeky peeps can just come by & scroll down to your comments and write some non-related nonsense, or 'follow me and I'll follow you back' rubbish... Purrrleeeease! I'm with Jillian - it's a little insulting to say the least!

I've met some amazing people via blogging, found some great & inspirational reads but it's mostly about the community for me more than anything else... opinions count & it's lovely to share what you love with like minded people. I know how busy people are in their everyday life, so I don't always expect a comment each time people visit and I appreciate the ones I do get, even one liners from those familiar blogger buds.

Anyhoos, I know what you're secret trying to do! Man I'm hungry now, need something sweet! ;)

  23. I nearly gave it away recently, after some privacy issues, but decided to start a new blog because I genuinely enjoyed the connections I had made all over the world. I look forward to everyone's new posts and although I probably spend too much time reading and writing blog posts, it just feels very warm and fuzzy!

  24. I like your blog! It is upsetting how some people just skip through the comments-
I don't think they mean to though, especially new bloggers sometimes don't get the community thing.
They just leave i follow you pls follow me comments...
Thank you for reminding us that it's not all about numbers.

  25. 3 cheers to keeping blogging fun!
Keep it up missy. You're doing a fab job

  26. I hate those spam-commenters, they make me furious! I totally agree with you, the best thing you can possibly do while blogging is forget about your numbers and concentrate on quality! That's why I love your blog.

  27. Ugh this is lame. One of the coolest things about blogging is the community -- really and truly. It's sad that this person doesn't understand that... but maybe there's still time. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. i agree, blogging is about community and getting to know each other :)

  29. Hi dear, this was a well written perspective on blogging and I totally agree with you on everything, its not about numbers, its about getting to write about what you love each day. Thanks for refreshing our minds!

  32. I agree with you and Mme Poirot. I can't understand why people go around posting comments that don't mean anything and asking people to follow them and they will follow you back. Then again, if I was that interested only in the number of followers I have, I would have given up loooooong ago. :) I'd rather stick with people who blog for reasons closer to my own.

  37. Thank you for this post. I have felt irritated when that has happened to me and it has. There are so many that don't bother to read posts when so much goes into them. I always read posts and care about genuine connections, which I am glad to have made with many great bloggers. Love your blog and am glad you will continue providing great posts for your readers.

  38. It is very frustrating to receive comments like this. I don't think people like that understand what blogging is all about.

  39. hi elie, hope you are doing well! thanks for blogging about this, these are very poignant points and i couldn't agree with you more. it's definitely irksome to see comments like that, but as long as we blog with heart, that's all that we can do. :) at one point in time, i did want to establish myself and i did get sucked into hits and stats, but then i lost steam with that and am having way more fun when there's no pressure and i blog when i feel like i and don't when i don't, comment when i have something to say (and not simply to market my blog). it's been a lot of fun! thanks for blogging about this!

  40. Love you, darlin! I feel the same exact way! :) xoxo

Thanks for all the beautiful content you create.

  42. I agree with you Elie. I always try to find something nice to say about the post, even if I wasn't entirely interested in it. The way I see it, the blogger took time to write it and by clicking on it and reading it, I feel like I should leave a little footprint, so I do try to write something. But something meaningful. I have a small blog but I love my space and I love my blog friends, I know there are a lot of people who don't comment, and that's okay - though sometimes I do wonder if it's because they found the post boring! xoxoxo

  43. I couldn't agree with you more! look forward to seeing you again later in the year x

  44. I totally agree! It drives me crazy when people ask me to follow them. Especially when they say they will follow you back if you follow them first. I only want followers who actually enjoy my blog. And I would think they'd want the same. But, I guess it's all about numbers to some people :(
