Magic of Advent

Every year I've heard and seen many images of Holiday Markets around the world and the one in Vienna has always been ne of the ones I want to go to the most.

The market has been operating since the Middle Ages {like many other European markets} and today it is a place for gathering and have something to eat with friends or to buy a few gifts for the family. There are over 150 stands that sell traditional holiday foods, warm drinks, and decorations typical of the season.

This market is special as it is the main market located on the City Hall square and has the beautiful backdrop of the City Hall and the Burgtheater. It starts on November 17th through the December 24th.

If you get to go, you can enjoy of a walk around the square where you can see the streets adorned with decorated trees and lights, there is also an ice skating rink, the market itself that is organized around the main Christmas tree located right in front of the city hall building, and the giant Advent Calendar, which has given the market its name.

It is believed that over 3 million people visit the market each year, being 500,000 of them tourists who are attracted by the fame of the Chistkindlmarkt. Are there any markets around your town that you visit during the Holiday Season?

Havea a great day!

  3. I've been wanting to go there for so long too! It looks amazing!!! I must admit, I always love to hear about this sort of place from the people who went there, sometimes I'm afraid that I'm dreaming of something that in reality is so different from what I had imagined and nowhere near as nice. But this really looks great!

  21. A friend of mine used to work at one in Germany and it always looked like so much fun! They have put a "holiday market" in Boston but it's really just one tent. You have to start somewhere though.
