Italian Ice

No, I'm not talking about ice cream but more of what covers the Dolomites and the beautiful city of Cortina d'Ampezzo. The city located in the heart of these mountains is famous for its winter sports and scenery that has enchanted people the world over.

This town is famous because it was the first place where they held the Winter Olympics after WWII in 1956. Also, it has been the setting of movies like the Pink Panther, the first one where they steal the diamond; and the Bond movie For Your Eyes Only, where Bond is chased down the mountains by guys in motorcycles.

The main town is 100% Italian as the high season features the best of Roman and Milanese high society who flood the streets wearing their fur coats and the best of their winter fashions. The streets are lined with designers shops, restaurants and antique stores.

It is said that the best pat of your day in Cortina is when the sun sets and the peaks of the Dolomites that surround the town are bathed in shades of pink, yellow and orange. Long gone are the glamorous days when Audrey Hepburn vacationed here, but still today royals and socialites alike are seen dancing at the discos or having a glass of champagne at the Hotel de la Poste.

I leave you with the song from the Pink Panther. Notice the setting and the fashionable outfits the ladies are wearing... Gotta love it!

Have a great day!
